Materials

Cordonnet crochet cotton size 20, ecru, about 1,000 yds. Steel crochet hook US size 7 (1,5 mm) 

Size for gauge

Elastic thread 3/4 yard. Lined round pillow form 17" in diameter.

First 3 rounds  of motif are 2" in diameter.
To Make
Ch 8 and join with sl st to form ring.
Round 1: Replacing first tr with 4 ch, in beg ring work 16 tr, close with sl st in top of ch-4.
Round 2: In each tr around work 1 dc + 2 ch, close with sl st in 3rd st of ch-5 and cont with sl st in first ch lp.
Round 3: Replacing first dc with 3 ch throughout, work 5-dc pc and 5 ch in each ch lp around; up to rend 15, close each round with sl st in top of first pc and cont with sl st (s) in first ch lp.

Round 4: Work *1 shell (=pc + 5 ch + pc) in ch lp, 3 ch + 1 sc + 3 ch in next ch 1p, rep from -around.
Round 5: Work * 1 sh in ch 1p, 4 ch, 2 tr in next sc, 4 ch, rep from * around.
Round 6: Work * 1 sh in ch lp, 5 ch, 1 dc worked over post (= stem) of each of next 2 tr, 5 ch, rep from * around.
Rounds 7-43: Work as established following diagram. Replace: on md 16 and on rounds 23 to 32, last 4 ch sts with tr worked in top of first pc (on rounds 16 and 23) and in top of ch-3 (on the other rounds); on rounds 33 to 42, last 3 ch sts with dc. On round 43, close with sl st and fasten off. Run elastic thru ch lps on round 43 as shown on diagram.
